HeyMetadata processes 100% of your images, videos, audio files, and documents locally in your browser memory using JavaScript and WebAssembly. We do not operate remote file uploading servers, file caching systems, or backend document processors.

1. How Local Processing Works

When you drag and drop a file or click "Browse files" on HeyMetadata, your web browser accesses the file directly through the standard HTML5 File API. The binary data is read, analyzed, and stripped of metadata entirely inside your web browser tab.

At no point during the scanning, viewing, or metadata removal process is any portion of your file sent over the internet to HeyMetadata or any third party.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

No File Data: We never upload, copy, store, or view your photos, documents, or media files.
No Personal Identifiers: We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or account registration.
No Location Data: We do not record or track your geographic location coordinates.
No File Metadata Logs: The EXIF parameters, GPS coordinates, author names, or file tags stripped by HeyMetadata are never transmitted or saved.

3. Local Browser Storage

HeyMetadata uses your browser's standard localStorage mechanism solely to store your display theme preference (light mode or dark mode under the key mc-theme). No tracking tokens, session IDs, or personal preference profiles are saved.

4. Analytics & Cookies

We maintain a strictly privacy first web environment. HeyMetadata does not use invasive third party tracking cookies, user profiling scripts, or cross-site tracking beacons.

Because HeyMetadata collects zero personal data and zero file content, we adhere to the core principles of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) by design:
